League

History / Information

The Jefferson Women's Golf League (JWGL) was created in 1984 with 44 members.  Currently, the league has approximately 135 members and functions solely by the volunteer work of its members.

JWGL plays at the 9 hole Fairfax County Jefferson District Golf Course every Wednesday morning, from the first week in April until the last week in October.  Tee times are generally between 7:00 -10:30 am (with the possibility of tee times up to 11:10 if needed).   JWGL members pay annual dues ($35 in 2024), and each member pays the golf course directly for her own golf round as well as push cart or driving cart if needed.

JWGL is a competitive league that requires players to keep and submit weekly scores.  Every member is assigned a handicap after 5 rounds of play, and there are weekly competitions and a three-week tournament in the fall.   At the end of the season, prizes are awarded and accomplishments recognized.

The league hosts social events during the season.  JWGL philosophy strives to encourage players to enjoy the game as they meet and develop friendships with others sharing similar interests.

How Do I Join?

Applications are acepted throughout the year and are placed on a waitlist.  Applicants should have at least a year of experience playing on a golf course,  have played around 24 rounds of golf, understand the basic U.S. Golf Association rules, be able to finish playing Jefferson District golf course within 2 hours and 10 minutes and have sufficient computer skills to be able to sign up and record scores on the league's website.  The league does not provide golf lessons, nor does Jefferson District rent clubs.   In January and February of each year, the league offers membership to applicants on the waitlist to backfill open membership positions.
